A Message from the President

I am pleased to welcome you to the official web-site for the Virginia SHRM State Council. We certainly hope all SHRM members and guests visiting our site will find it to be both interesting and informative. We look forward to keeping you "up-to-date" on current announcements and events relevant to the Human Resource Profession in Virginia and on a National level.

On our web site you will find comprehensive information about the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), "THE GLOBAL VOICE OF THE HR PROFESSION", and the Virginia SHRM State Council (VaSHRM). From our Vision to be the "Virginia Voice of the HR Profession” to our Mission to:

  • Provide a forum for chapters to discuss common issues, problems, concerns, and to share ideas and successes;

  • Facilitate information from chapters and the state council to the area and national boards and from the area and national boards to the state council and chapters;

  • Represent SHRM by visiting chapters and promoting and sharing with individual members the services and benefits offered by SHRM;

  • Assessing needs of members and chapters, and meeting those needs by securing and/or providing information;

  • Adopting programs that will promote the progress, visibility and welfare of SHRM and its members in the human resources profession;

  • Communicating with those SHRM members within the state who are not affiliated with a particular chapter (at-large members); and

  • Coordinating state and national legislative initiatives.

  • The VaSHRM State Council annual goals and objectives can be viewed on our communication site, at http://sp.shrmva.org, as well as, contact information and biographies for each of our council members, the latest announcements and events, advertising and marketing opportunities, and links to Virginia SHRM Chapters, the SHRM regional site, and the National SHRM website.

    Since its inception, the Virginia State Council has achieved numerous significant accomplishments by partnering with local SHRM Chapters, SHRM Volunteer Leaders and SHRM members throughout the Commonwealth. These accomplishments have resulted in the VaSHRM State Council achieving Superior Honor State Council status for several years under our past and current leadership.

    We hope that our web-site will be of value to you and your organization. Please share it with your colleagues and let us know what you think. Remember, the only reason the Virginia SHRM State Council exists is to “add value to our Virginia SHRM Chapters and to our Virginia SHRM members by representing their interests in the human resources profession”!
