The key to our future success in the Commonwealth of Virginia is to accelerate workforce readiness. As Ed Barlow stated, "This is a journey, not a destination."

Purpose of the Event:

This is a statewide strategic summit on Virginia’s workforce development system is a partnership between the Virginia SHRM State Council and the Commonwealth of Virginia to improve the readiness and competitiveness of Virginia’s workforce at home and around the globe. This summit represents a full year’s work around the state following last year’s “Accelerating Virginia’s Workforce Readiness to Ensure Competitive Advantages in the 21st Century” conference and will be a hinge point in how the state moves forward with its workforce readiness strategy.

Individuals attending the event will be updated on initiatives at the regional and state levels, including the Governor’s vision and goals on workforce development. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to offer suggestions and ask the panel questions relating to workforce readiness in challenges they have encountered.

Learning Objectives:

1. Businesses partnering with educational institutions to develop pathways to meet employers’ needs within the state of Virginia.
2. Develop critical thinking skills and a blueprint as it relates to workforce readiness.
3. Understanding economic needs, what is working, what is not working, and also how can businesses, schools, and the government work together to achieve workforce readiness in the state.
4. To pursue actions to incorporate that which has been learned into the strategic planning of participant employer organizations.
5. To identify areas of professional growth for participants and their organizations.
